Paul J. Smith, known as PJ at Enloe, passed away suddenly in November, 2023 in Robeson county, NC, He was single at the time of his death. His brother Sandy, class of '66 confirmed his passing and shared some details of his life and accomplishments. PJ was on the  first Enloe wrestling team and advanced to the state level competition that same year. He later became a wrestling coach and officiated for state teams, the U.S. National teams, and even the Olympics. After retiring from a long coaching career at UNC-Pembroke, he helped establish a number of high school programs, including women's teams, in that area of the state. I remember him as a quiet person, who, along with his brother, included me in their post-workout workouts on the Enloe track that year. He certainly followed his wrestling dream to the very end and I'm glad to finally recognize his devotion and accomplishments to his sport.
