In Memory

Oliver Frady

Oliver Frady

Oliver Vanderbilt Frady III died suddenly on August 1, 2021.

Oliver, a lifelong resident of Raleigh, NC was on born on November 17, 1946, to the late Oliver Vanderbilt Frady, Jr. and Mary Frady.

Oliver graduated from William G. Enloe High School in 1965, retired employee of C.C. Mangum and later the owner of Oliver’s Billiards and Tavern. He was an avid sports lover and excelled at baseball and football in his youth. He enjoyed all sports. He played softball well into his fifties, bowled for many years at Western Lanes on Hillsborough Street, and loved a good round of golf. If you ever went with him to Kerr Lake and did not know how to water ski, you definitely would be by the time you left. He pulled many people skiing behind his boat and enjoyed every minute of it. When his kids were growing, the family started camping at Kerr Lake where many more memories were made and traditions started. Family was everything to Oliver and so were his lifelong friendships that were made while growing up in Raleigh. He loved a good joke, usually had a story behind it and quite often a prankster. He will be truly missed by all that knew him.

Oliver is preceded in death by his beloved wife Carolyn Jones Frady and his brother David L. Frady. He is survived by his loving daughters; Karen DeLong and husband David of Raleigh, NC and Amy Frady of Raleigh, NC. Grandson; Hunter DeLong and wife Anna of Sanford, NC and granddaughter Carlee Smith and husband Keaton of Winterville, NC. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and beloved by many.

Everyone remembers that speeding streak making those end runs for the Eagles in their Nest. I only got to enjoy his company at a couple reunions over the decades. Though he had slowed down somewhat over time, he seemed to me to have aged graciously. He will be fondly remembered by all of us as we revere each of our treasured classmates.
